Reconstructing a young woman’s life and disappearance
Saman: La verità nascosta revisits the case of eighteen-year-old Saman Abbas through original audio, previously unheard testimony and the account of her brother Haider. Directed by Francesca Mazzoleni and Gianluca Santoni, the three-part documentary combines the investigation with a closer account of relationships and conflicts in her life.
In fuga begins with Saman's disappearance and a police enquiry that uncovers family secrets and tensions. Italian girl moves into the period when she is staying in a reception centre and continuing a relationship with Saqib despite an impending arranged marriage. That structure returns attention to her choices and circumstances, rather than presenting only the later criminal case.
