Expansion told through the families connected to it
This Land explores the growth of the United States through six defining frontiers. The documentary connects territorial decisions with present-day interviews featuring descendants of people involved. Explorers, political figures, Indigenous leaders and immigrant workers enter the account through family connections that link the changing national map with individual lives.
The series’ central subject is the relationship between ambition, conflict and power as a coastal nation expands across a continent. Its family-based perspective adds a personal route into decisions usually described through treaties, expeditions and political leaders. The descendants’ accounts are present-day connections to that history.
