An ocean connected by generations of voyages
Voyagers: Exploring Pacific Waters follows the long history of people crossing the Pacific in hand-built canoes to find new places to live. The series presents migration as a continuing development of knowledge and technology, with stars, sea conditions and ancestral stories helping guide journeys across open water. Its subject is an ocean world connected through travel.
The geographic range includes islands from Hawai‘i to New Zealand and from the Philippines to Rapa Nui. The documentary links the settlement of these places with the changing design of canoes and the navigation needed to cross difficult stretches of sea. Physical barriers and the search for new homes give the history its movement.
